Bypasser

Nic Sandiland

17 - 28 February 2010

Bypasser is an interactive installation from UK-based digital artist Nic Sandiland. Presented in High Chelmer Shopping Centre, Chelmsford in February 2010, Bypasser links the movement of everyday shoppers to the motion of a moving panorama projected into shop windows.

The installation takes its inspiration from the moving panoramas of the nineteenth century used to document the new landscapes discovered by explorers of the British Empire and the American Frontier. Sandiland’s Bypasser reinterprets these moving panoramas in a contemporary context highlighting the everyday terrain and pedestrian actions of consumers as they pass through their local shopping centre.

Bypasser will be presented in conjunction with a partner installation Everything Looks Beautiful in Slow Motion which will also be resident in High Chelmer Shopping Centre, Chelmsford over the same period.

The best site specfic piece I have seen was by Nic Sandiland. It was a while a go in a Secret Nuclear Bunker. Can’t wait to see his work in chelmsford. See you there.
