Emerge
DanceDigital Artist Platform
Trestle Arts Base, St. Albans, 6 - 10 May 2011
DanceDigital’s annual Emerge artistic platform returns to Trestle Arts Base on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 May. The two evenings present a fascinating line up of dance from our Commissioned, Associate and Bursary artists for 2010/11. All the works are inspired by DanceDigital’s current research theme Digital Environments. Alongside performances, there will be interactive installations running from 6 to 10 May.

RE-MAP
Artists Becky Edmunds and Fiona Wright continue their series of History Dances collaborations with innovative approaches to integrating video and live performance to present the moving body on screen. An early presentation of their new project, re-map, will offer close-up encounters within a hands-on, multi-screen performance installation.

Friday 6 to Tuesday 10 May 2011, open daily in The Apex from 10am until 5pm
Thought Dance
Matthias Sperling presents Thought Dance, an interactive installation using EEG technologies. Custom-designed software will create distinct real-time visual representations of each participant’s brain activity. The interaction between these will produce further visual and sound effects. The work will enable participants to intentionally cause particular events to occur on the screen by modulating their own thought activity, thus engaging in a visible and volitional ‘thought dance’ with one another. A DanceDigital commission.

Performances
Friday 6 May at 7.30pm EMERGE: IMMERSE
An evening of installation based works that offer the audience interactive engagement through digitised architectures, vocal and physical gesture.
Yvon Bonenfant presents Beacons (excerpt)
Beacons uses multi-screen projections of flashing light and spatialised live and recorded extended voice sounds to invite the audience into a space of passionate encounter with the heart and a sometimes ethereal, sometimes bracing visual world. The stunning and surprising voice of Yvon Bonenfant and the sensual video art by David Shearing explore coming and going, longing and loss, encounter and love, through landscapes that involve lost lovers, ambulances, twinkling stars, fog horns, distant radio antennas, and calls to the beyond, journeying through by turns luscious and stark poetries of sound and image.
Kieran Sheehan Dance Theatre presents We2
We2 is an immersive dance theatre experience allowing the audience to become tourists of gay digital culture. Moments of poetic narrative dance combine with immersive experiences pushing boundaries of intimacy, carnality and voyeurism. Kieran is currently an associate artist at DanceDigital.
Please note that this performance contains adult content and is not appropriate for children.
Thought Dance by Matthias Sperling and Re-map by Becky Edmunds and Fiona Wrightwill run throughout the evening.
