Kieran-Sheehan

Kieran Sheehan is Artistic Director of Kieran Sheehan Dance Theatre. The company makes dance theatre work about people living on the outskirts of society, creating productions and projects that hold integration of feeling, movement and thought at their core.As Associate Artist for Dance Digital, Kieran will be developing  a new piece of dance theatre using pervasive media. The work, We2, explores the world of gay digital environments drawing on applications such as Grindr and Gaydar that are becoming everyday forms of interaction for many gay and transgender men on the scene.

Examining ideas around embodiment and intimacy within digital and physical environments, We2 will set up small scale installation works in local spaces. This will assist in the exploration of how mobile phone applications, which use GPS technology, are ‘queering’ public spaces that were never before perceived as a Gay space. This ‘digital cruising’ could be seen as the use of mobile phone technology to re-articulate public space. The constant knowledge that other gay men are around us changes the hetronomic perception of place and leads gay men towards an enlivened identity which has virtually evolved through digital technology.
