Chris Ziegler
This month’s featured artist, Chris Ziegler (*1963, Karlsruhe, Germany) has been using media with the performing arts since early 1990’s in numerous international collaborations of interdisciplinary projects. Ziegler’s multimedia projects, interactive installations, multimedia performances and scenographic works are presented at festivals internationally and are accredited for their diversity and innovation.
His position as an Associate Artist at the Center for Art and Media ZKM in Karlsruhe in 2000-2001 has been important for the development of projects, such as the interactive road movie 66movingimages (1998 – 2001).
In 2000 and 2001, he was an Artist-in-Residence at Arizona State University, Phoenix [USA], where he also held a series of workshops focussing on telematic performance productions.
He has also been a Researcher for Inside Knowledge Movement at the Amsterdam School for the Arts (AHK), a two-year (2008-2010) collaborative, interdisciplinary research project into new methods for the documentation, transmission and preservation of contemporary choreographic and dance knowledge.
Finally, Ziegler has collaborated with Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts in Bangalore, a leading Indian Institution in the interdisciplinary area of dance an media.
Ziegler won the first “Young Art and New Media Award” in Munich, was Nominee for Monaco Dance Forum Award, Monaco 2006 and won various Design Awards (I.D. Magazine 2000/2001 and “New Voices New Visions”, New York 1996).
Some of his most interesting pieces include the interactive film Rickshaw Bangalore (2008), the Theater installation / Multimedia Opera Forest 2 – Another Midsummer Night’s Dream (2007), and the recent site-specific promenade performance presented with film installation and live music For Pina (2010), dedicated to Pina Bausch.
